Artist Personal Statement
The ocean inspires me daily; it’s the reason I moved to Maui from Barcelona, and my motivation for pursuing a job at the Kazuma Surf Factory in Haiku, Hawaii. I wanted to study the process of surfboard production and participate in its creation.
In my journey to learn more about my hobby, I stumbled upon accumulated material, disposed of several times a year by surfboard shapers. Unsightly in raw form, this material challenged my imagination and inspired my current work.
The sculptures of this collection are made on Maui, of resin acquired from the Kazuma Surf Factory in Haiku, Hawaii. Similar to my paintings, they are abstract expressions of color.
When I use my hands to create, my mind and body are engaged. I am absorbed in an experience that has come to define me. This is why I do art: completely immersed in sensory experience, my inner world is expressed.
